UP Open Ear Headphones

Open-ear headphones sit outside the ear canal rather than inside it. Libratone UP uses two 15 mm speakers to deliver sound while leaving your ears open. This means you can enjoy music, podcasts, or calls while still staying aware of your surroundings.

The biggest difference is the open-wearing experience. With UP, there are no earbuds inside your ear canal. This can be particularly comfortable during longer listening sessions, sports, or everyday use.

At the same time, you remain connected to your surroundings – ideal for running, walking, or being out and about.

Both types leave the ear canal open, but they deliver sound differently.

Bone-conduction headphones transmit part of the sound through vibrations via the bones around your ear. Libratone UP, on the other hand, uses air conduction with two 15 mm speakers positioned outside the ear canal. This allows UP to combine the open-ear wearing experience with a more familiar speaker-based approach to sound.

A major advantage of speaker technology is that it eliminates potential irritating vibrations against the bones around your ears. It also allows for higher maximum volume, which can be particularly useful in very noisy environments – for example, when running alongside a busy road. That way, you won't miss a word of your favorite podcast - while still staying aware of your surroundings.

Due to their open design, open-ear headphones cannot create the same acoustic seal as in-ear headphones. Libratone UP therefore uses relatively large 15 mm speakers to deliver a full and dynamic sound despite its open design.

So, if you want to combine good sound with open ears, open-ear headphones are an excellent option.

Yes. That is one of the key advantages of the open-ear concept. Because your ear canal remains open, you can continue to hear surrounding sounds naturally.

This is particularly useful when running, walking, biking or whenever you don't want to be completely isolated from what's happening around you.

Yes. Libratone UP is designed with active use in mind. The headphones weigh just 23.5 g and sit outside the ear canal. With an IP57 rating, they are also protected against dust and temporary immersion in water.

This makes them a great choice for running, fitness, and other outdoor activities.

IP (Ingress Protection) is a rating that defines the durability of your headphones when being exposed to solids and liquids, like dust and moisture.

The first number of the rating refers to protection against solids. Here, the scale runs from 0-6, with 0 meaning no protection and 6 meaning full protection. The second number refers to protection against liquids, with a scale ranging from 0-8. 0 being the lowest and 8 being the highest level of protection.

For UP, an IP57 rating means dust and water resistance. Perfect for an on-the-go lifestyle that can endure both sweat and rain.

Whether you’re on the go or lounging at home, the Libratone UP headphones let you stay clear and connected. With smart AI-powered voice enhancement and dual microphones, the UPs offer excellent call clarity, filtering out the most disturbing background noise.

UP is designed to stay securely on your ears even when you're moving. At the same time, there is no earbud that needs to be pushed into your ear canal.

If you often have to readjust conventional earbuds during use or find pressure inside your ears uncomfortable, the open-ear design is a great alternative.

Libratone UP is a great choice if you:

• want to stay aware of your surroundings while listening to music,
• don't want anything sitting inside your ear canal during exercise,
• find traditional in-ear headphones uncomfortable over longer periods,
• want lightweight headphones for both sports and everyday life,
• prefer an open-ear design using air conduction rather than a pure bone-conduction concept.

Libratone UP is made for people who don't just listen while sitting still. Whether you're running, working out, walking or simply going about your day, UP lets you enjoy your audio without completely disconnecting from your surroundings.
